Origin and history

The professional high school of haute couture and aesthetics occupies a former mansion built in 1891 for Mr. Thibault-Morel. The architect Adrien-Paul Gouny blends an eclectic style, borrowing elements during the medieval, Renaissance and eighteenth centuries, while integrating modern materials such as terracotta, Paul Loebnitz' enamelled ceramic or polychromic brick. This bold blend reflects the architectural trends of the late 19th century, where tradition and innovation coexist.

The building, registered to the Historic Monuments since 1997, is distinguished by its facades and roofs on street and courtyard, its check-in passage, as well as its kitchens on the ground floor and its staircase of honor. The old stables and sheds, located in the backyard, complete this remarkable architectural ensemble. The use of enamelled ceramics, signed by artisan Paul Loebnitz, highlights the attention paid to decorative details, characteristic of Parisian private hotels of the time.

Today transformed into a professional high school, the building retains protected elements such as the honorary staircase and its cage, as well as rooms on the first floor. Its inscription in the title of Historic Monuments in 1997 reflects its heritage value, combining architectural heritage and adaptation to contemporary use. The location at 9 Fortuny Street in the 17th arrondissement makes it a representative example of Haussmannian and post-Hhaussmannian urban planning in Paris.
