Bridge crossing the Saulx: inscription by decree of 1 December 1950
Origin and history
The bridge over the Saulx d'Haironville is a 17th-century building located in the commune of Haironville, in the Grand Est region. This monument, inscribed by decree of 1 December 1950, bears witness to the architecture and construction techniques of its time. It crosses the Saulx River, an important local river for trade and travel in the region.
In the seventeenth century, bridges played a crucial role in the development of rural areas. They facilitated trade, population displacement and strengthened linkages between villages. In the Lorraine region, then integrated in the East, these infrastructures were essential to connect communities and support the local economy, often based on agriculture and crafts.
The Haironville Bridge, although little documented in available sources, is a typical example of civilian constructions during this period. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1950 underscores its heritage and architectural importance. Today, there remains a material testimony of local history and technical know-how of the seventeenth century.
