Origin and history

Puicheric Pyramid is a monument located in the department of Aude, in the commune of Puicheric in the Occitan region. Probably dating back to the second half of the 18th century, it is distinguished by its architectural style and its characteristic mouldings of this period. The monument, of pyramidal shape, rests on a square monolithic base and reaches a total height of 4.43 meters. A debossed inscription on the south side of the base indicates: "path from Carcassonne to Béziers", suggesting a road or territorial marking function.

According to historical sources, this pyramid marked the boundary between the ancient dioceses of Carcassonne and Narbonne, Puicheric dependent on Carcassonne. The style of inscriptions and mouldings, now partially degraded, confirms a realization in the eighteenth century. The monument was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of April 7, 1952, recognizing its heritage value. No other information is available about its sponsor or its precise use beyond its symbolic function.

Architecturally, the pyramid consists of a base surmounted by a plinth, followed by a net and a cellar leading to a moulure crown. All sides, except the south side of the base, are anepigraphs (without inscription). The building is located on the northern edge of the former National Highway 610, now re-qualified, and remains accessible although its conservation status is not detailed in available sources.
