Cross of intersection: inscription by decree of 31 October 1940

Origin and history

The Cross Cross Cross of Corsaint is a listed historical monument, located in the village of Corsaint, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Dated from the 16th century, it is a typical example of the cross of paths or crossroads erected at that time, often linked to religious, commemorative or symbolic functions in the countryside.

This type of monument, common in rural areas, generally served as a landmark for travellers, a place of prayer or a gathering for the inhabitants. In the 16th century, Burgundy was a region marked by a strong agricultural and artisanal activity, where the crosses also played a role in structuring landscapes and local communities. These buildings often reflected popular piety and the importance of religion in everyday life.

The Cross of Corsaint was officially protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments on October 31, 1940. This recognition reflects its heritage value and its roots in local history. Today, it belongs to the commune of Corsaint, located in the department of Côte-d.
