Origin and history
The barn of Raclat is a 18th-century building located in the commune of Beaulon, in the Allier department. It is distinguished by its wood-pan structure with torchi hurdles, a technique common in agricultural buildings of the time. This type of barn-stable served both as a shelter for livestock and as a storage for crops, reflecting the rural organization of the region.
The interior elements, such as sandstone feeders and wooden partitions, are still visible today. These developments illustrate the traditional agricultural practices of Bourbonnais, where farms were often autonomous. The barn was listed as historical monuments in 2008, becoming one of the few preserved remains of a complete farm during this period.
The structure rests on a masonry solin supporting low sandstones and detailed poles, reinforced by crosses of Saint-André. These architectural details demonstrate the expertise of local carpenters, adapting the available techniques to the practical needs of farmers. Raclat's barn is now fully protected, including its interior features, offering a rare example of preserved rural heritage.
