Origin and history

The Renaissance House, located in Pont-à-Mousson in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle, is a monument whose facade was classified by ministerial decree. This ranking, which took place on 18 January 1921, reflects its heritage and architectural importance for the Grand Est region, and more particularly for the city of Pont-à-Mousson. Renaissance houses, typical of the 15th and 16th centuries, often reflect the economic and cultural development of cities at that time.

In Pont-à-Mousson, as in other cities of Lorraine, these buildings were usually built by local bourgeois or notables. Their presence illustrates the urban dynamism and central role of these buildings in the social and commercial life of the community. These houses served as both a dwelling and a place of representation for their owners, thus marking their status in the social hierarchy of the period.
