Origin and history

The hunting rendezvous of the Counts of Foix is an emblematic building located in the village of Siguer, Ariège, in the Occitanie region. Built at an altitude of 743 metres, this building is made of carved wooden panels with Toulouse brick walls dating from 1487. It is said to have been converted into a house of the consuls of the Siguer Valley in 1585, as indicated by a sculpted bas-relief bearing that date. Ranked under the title of Historic Monuments by order of 6 April 1987, it bears witness to the medieval and reborn civil architecture of the region.

The facades of the west and south, particularly remarkable, are decorated with refined sculptures. The western façade features an entrance door framed with ionic pilastre carved poles decorated with beaded interlaces and consoles. The southern façade, on the other hand, has posts supporting the windows, adorned with ionic capitals, grooves, shells and interlaces. These elements suggest that the building was part of a larger architectural complex, as suggested by nearby carved wood fragments.

This monument also inspired literature, playing a central role in Gilbert Galy's novel La Maison de chasse des comtes de Foix, published in 2013. Today, it belongs to a private society and remains a symbol of the historical and cultural heritage of the Siguer Valley, combining seigneurial history and community life.
