Origin and history
Cromlech de Crucuny, also known as cromlech du Champ de la Croix or cromlech de Parc-er-Groez, is a megalithic enclosure located in Carnac, Morbihan department. This monument, dated from the Neolithic, presents itself today as a 45-metre long wall along the road, although its original extent was larger. Several stones have been modified or damaged, and three of them carry engravings. A menhir isolated to the northeast is probably related to the original set.
Ranked as historical monuments on 12 May 1926, the cromlech was restored between 1926 and 1927, led by archaeologist Zacharie Le Rouzic. The latter contributed to the inventory of megalithic monuments in the region, highlighting the heritage importance of the site. Historical sources, such as the works of Anne-Louise Hamon and the bulletins of the Morbihan Polymathic Society, attest to his archaeological interest.
Today, the Cromlech of Crucuny is located near the hamlet of Toul er Lann, in Carnac. Although its state of conservation is partial, a significant example of Breton megalithic construction remains. Its ranking and restoration reflect efforts to preserve this prehistoric heritage, while allowing its study by researchers and its discovery by the public.
