The remains of the Mosque-Ziara of Polé, including its well, as demarcated in red on the plan annexed to the decree (Box AH 3): inscription by order of 7 April 2017

Origin and history

The Pole Ziara Mosque is a former mosque located in Dzaoudzi, on the Petite-Terre de Mayotte. Today, in a state of ruins, it bears witness to the Islamic heritage of the island. Its architecture and well, still visible, reflect local religious and cultural practices before its gradual degradation.

Classified as a historic monument in 2017, the mosque-ziara is one of the rare remains of this type preserved in Mayotte. Its listing in the inventory of historic monuments underlines its heritage importance, although details of its construction and initial use remain partially documented. The protection specifically includes the remains of the mosque and its well, defined by a plan annexed to the classification decree.

The precise location of the site, at 4 Ruele Mosque de Pôle, confirms its anchoring in the urban fabric of Dzaoudzi. Owned by the department of Mayotte, the site is not explicitly mentioned as open to the visit, but its protected status makes it a place of interest for the study of the Islamic and architectural history of the archipelago.
