Origin and history
The Roman portico of the Vienna Forum is a historical monument located in the city of Vienna, in Isère (Department 38), in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. This archaeological vestige is part of the ancient heritage of the city, although its exact period of construction is not specified in the available sources. It is integrated into the so-called Cybelian Archaeological Garden, a space dedicated to preserving the traces of the Roman era.
Monuments of this type, such as portals, played a central role in Roman forums, serving as places of assembly, commerce and social exchange. In Vienna, a city with a strong Roman presence, these structures illustrated the urban organization and public life of the time. Their conservation makes it possible today to study the architectural and cultural practices of Gallo-Roman populations in Garbonnaise Gaul.
