Jean Giraudon - Entrepreneur, developer and architect Creator of the resort and builder of the villa.

Origin and history

The Russian Villa of Saint-Nectaire was built in the last quarter of the 19th century, around 1880, by the entrepreneur Jean Giraudon. The latter, a visionary developer, designed a complete spa along the Couze Valley, including thermal baths, casinos and rental villas. The Russian Villa is distinguished by its eclectic style, combining coastal architectural influences with neo-Moorish elements, reflecting the exotic tendencies of the era.

Jean Giraudon played a versatile role in this project: urban planner, architect and builder. After building the thermal and playful infrastructures, he built this villa as an integral part of a real estate complex designed to attract an easy clientele. His innovative approach marked the tourist development of Saint-Nectaire, then in full expansion thanks to the supposed virtues of its waters.

The villa was classified as a Historic Monument by order of 29 December 2004, recognizing its heritage value. Its inscription concerns the entire building (cadastre AK 53), stressing its importance in local architectural history. Today, it testifies to the development of spas at the end of the 19th century and the creative audacity of its sponsor.
