Origin and history
The Saint-Achard church in Mecquignies is a historical monument located in the municipality of Mecquignies, in the northern department. It is characterized by a simple architecture, composed of a unique ship combining the nave, the choir and the sacristy, arranged in a thread. The building, built of stone stone stone stone, has traces of crows on its southern wall. The brick tower is surmounted by a polygonal arrow, while the general cover is slate. The windows, high and narrow, illuminate the interior in a sober way.
The church, of medieval origin, underwent several restorations during the nineteenth century. The re-used entrance door bears the date of 1721, while the glory beam (tref) displays the dates of 1570 and 1888, showing later modifications or additions. The tower was completely rebuilt in 1893 by architect Neulliès. These elements illustrate an architectural history marked by successive redevelopments, reflecting the needs and tastes of the eras traversed.
The building is partially protected, with an inventory listing of Historic Monuments since 1934, specifically covering the structure and nave. This official recognition underlines its heritage interest, both for its architecture and for its historic anchoring in the Hauts-de-France region. The location of the church at 5000 Church Street in Mecquignies makes it a central landmark in the local landscape.
