Origin and history
The church Saint-André de Blancafort, located in the Cher department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, presents a structure whose origins date back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The primitive nave, of rectangular shape, was built in small stone apparatus with markings still visible at its base. These remains bear witness to the first phase of medieval construction of the building, characteristic of the Romanesque architecture of the region.
In the 16th century, the church underwent major architectural changes. The nave was vaulted with four branches of ground warheads, decorated with a tore between two cellars resting on bare crows. This transformation reflects the evolution of styles towards late Gothic. The bedside and bell tower, also dated from this period, complement these major additions, marking a significant renovation phase in the history of the monument.
Saint-André Church was listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of February 19, 1926, recognizing its heritage value. The protected elements include the entire building, as defined in the cadastre (Section AD, Parcel 70). Today, the church belongs to the commune of Blancafort and remains an architectural testimony of the stylistic transitions between Romanesque and Gothic in the center of France.
