Origin and history
The church of Saint-Aubin de Gaubertin, located in the Loiret, is a monument whose construction spans centuries. The choir, composed of two spans, dates from the 13th century, while the nave and the lower side are characteristic of the 15th century. The bell tower, Romanesque style, also dates back to the 13th century, and a window of the nave, although located in a span of the 15th century, preserves 13th century elements. These stylistic superpositions reflect architectural developments and successive work campaigns.
In the 19th century, the building was the subject of several notable interventions. In 1868, a general restoration was carried out, followed in 1889 by the construction of the sacristy. An unusual detail is mentioned: a zinc cock, installed on the bell tower on September 6, 1833, pays particular attention to the symbolic and functional elements of the building. The church is classified as Historic Monument by decree of 12 January 1931, thus recognizing its heritage value.
Church architecture reflects the transitions between the Romanesque and Gothic periods. The first north window of the nave, modern, contrasts with the preserved medieval elements. The porch, potentially added in the 15th century, and subsequent restorations illustrate the continuous adaptation of the building to liturgical and community needs. Today, the church belongs to the municipality of Gaubertin and remains a testimony of artisanal know-how and local religious history.
