Origin and history
The church of Saint-Blaise de Balleray, located in the commune of Vaux d'Amognes (Nièvre), is a religious building built in the 12th century. It embodies Burgundy Romanesque architecture, characteristic of this medieval period, and bears witness to the rural religious heritage of the region. Its classification as Historic Monuments by order of 18 August 1931 – with the exception of its modern bell tower – underlines its heritage value and the desire to preserve its original state.
The location of the church, at approximately 0 Place de l'Église in Balleray (code INSEE 58204), is documented in the Merimée base. The monument, owned by the commune, illustrates the importance of parish churches in the social and spiritual organization of the Burgundy countryside in the Middle Ages. These buildings served not only as places of worship, but also as community landmarks, often associated with local agricultural and artisanal activities.
Available sources, including Monumentum, specify that the church is partially protected, with a geolocalized location deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10). No further information is provided on any contemporary uses (visits, rentals, accommodation), or on historical figures related to its foundation or architectural evolution.
