Origin and history

The church of Saint-Denis d'Hodeng is a Catholic building located in the municipality of Hodeng-Hodenger, Seine-Maritime, Normandy. Built in the 13th century, it is distinguished by its location on a steep slope. Its porch, dated from the 16th century, is decorated with statues depicting St. Denis, St. Barbe and St. Nicholas, as well as a pieto. Inside, a 13th century stone Baptistery and a Romanesque arch testify to its medieval heritage.

The church's history is linked to the merger of the two parishes of Hodeng and Hodenger in 1822, thus uniting the local communities. The building was classified as historic monuments by order of 13 December 1978, recognizing its heritage value. Today, he embodies both a place of worship and a notable architectural vestige of the region, illustrating stylistic evolutions between the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

The church's location in the former municipality of Hodenger highlights its historic anchoring in a Normandy rural territory. Its classification among the historical monuments of the Seine-Maritime makes it a key element of the religious and architectural heritage of the Dieppe district. Sources also mention its presence in specialized works, such as Le Patrimoine des Communes de la Seine-Maritime (1997), confirming its local importance.
