Origin and history

Saint-François-de-Sales Church is a 19th-century Catholic church built in Faucigny, Haute-Savoie. It replaces two earlier churches: a first located near the castle, and a second built to the northeast. Originally, the parish church was dedicated to Saint Ymier, a Jurasian monk, before being associated with Saint Francis de Sales from the seventeenth century, after its canonization in 1665.

In the 19th century, the parish of Faucigny was merged with that of Peillonnex. The old church having disappeared, a new one was built in 1854 at the capital. The current building, with a dome, was decorated in 1867 by the painter J.B. Ferraris. These frescoes were restored in 2003. The church was listed as a historical monument in 2001.

Today, the church of Saint-François-de-Sales is part of the parish of La Trinité in the Pays des Voirons, attached to the dean of Faucigny and the diocese of Annecy. It reflects the religious and architectural evolution of the region, mixing medieval heritage and modern reconstruction.
