Origin and history
The church of Saint-Julien-l'Hospitalier-et-Saint-Blaise de Longsols, located in the Aube department in the Grand Est region, is a religious building with wooden strips built in the late 15th century and early 16th century. It is distinguished by its architecture typical of the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, with an apparent interior structure and a large arrow. This monument illustrates the importance of rural churches in the cultural and spiritual landscape of Champagne.
The church was initially the seat of a priory-curtain dependent on the abbey Saint-Loup de Troyes. In 1140, Atton, bishop of Troyes, had exchanged her to help found the abbey of Larritour. This transaction reflected the religious and political dynamics of the time, where abbeys and priories played a central role in the territorial and spiritual organization. The present building, rebuilt at the end of the 15th century, bears witness to this turbulent history.
Ranked a historic monument since 5 July 1926, the church houses several remarkable elements, including retables and statues. These decorative elements, typical of the churches of the period, underline its role both religious and cultural in the local community. The protection as a historical monument guarantees the preservation of this architectural and artistic heritage for future generations.
The church is located at 35 Rue Basse in Longsols, in a rural setting characteristic of the Pays du Der. Its location, combined with its architecture and history, makes it a point of interest for lovers of heritage and regional history. The management of the monument is now the responsibility of the municipality, thus ensuring its maintenance and enhancement in the local setting.
