Origin and history
Saint-Ouen de Saint-Ouen-d'Attez is a religious monument located in the commune of Sainte-Marie-d'Attez, in the department of Eure in Normandy. Built mainly in the 15th and 16th centuries, it also underwent modifications in the 19th century. This building illustrates the religious architecture of these periods, mixing medieval elements and more recent additions.
Classified as a Historic Monument by decree of 24 November 1961, the church is protected for its heritage interest. It belongs to the commune and is located at the approximate address of 83 Place Jules Chauvin, in Saint-Ouen-d'Attez. Its inclusion in the Merimée base confirms its protected heritage status, although its precise location is considered satisfactory a priori with a score of 6/10.
Parish churches like Saint-Ouen played a central role in the life of Norman rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for social and civic events. In medieval and modern times, these buildings often reflected local prosperity and regional artistic influences, while being identity markers for villages.
