Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Méaudre is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Isère, on the commune of Méaudre, now integrated in Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors. It is dedicated to the apostles St Peter and St Paul, two major figures of Christianity. This monument is part of the architectural and spiritual landscape of the region, marked by a strong Catholic tradition.
The history of this church is marked by a tragic event: the old church, destroyed by a fire caused by lightning on August 16, 1877, required the construction of a new building. Reconstruction work was carried out between 1883 and 1886, giving rise to the present church. This project reflects the resilience of the local community to natural disasters and its commitment to its religious heritage.
More recently, the church was restored, with paintings completed in June 2015. These renovations enabled the building to be re-established and made fit for cultural events. In 2015, for example, it served as a venue for the 19th Festival de musiques en Vercors, illustrating its spiritual and cultural role in the region.
