Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Montières is a religious building located in the eponymous district, northwest of Amiens, in the department of the Somme. Its current construction dates back to the 14th century, although a parish church was attested as early as 1125 as the dependence of the priory of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, itself linked to the abbey of Saint-Fuscien. This first place of worship reflected the medieval religious organization, where priories often served as relays to the great abbeys.
The present church, built of limestone on a sandstone base, presents a mixture of architectural styles. The porch, decorated with a flamboyant Gothic decor, dates back to the 16th century, while the brick bottoms were added at the end of the 19th century. These changes illustrate the evolution of aesthetic techniques and tastes, including the increasing use of brick in the industrial era. The choir, with polygonal bedside, and the western tower-clocher complete the building, covered with dardian, traditional material of the region.
Inside, the organ built in the 20th century by Felix Van Den Brande bears witness to a more recent musical heritage. This detail, combined with structural transformations, highlights the cultural and cultural vitality of this monument throughout the centuries. The church remains a historical marker of the Montières district, linked to the urban and religious expansion of Amiens since the Middle Ages.
