Origin and history
Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Martin de Condé-sur-Ifs is a Catholic building located in the Calvados department in Normandy. Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, it features architectural elements characteristic of these periods, including a tower dating from the late 13th century. The building was partially repaired in the 15th century, reflecting a long history of maintenance and adaptation.
Classified as historical monuments in 1910, this church is a notable example of Norman religious heritage. It preserves a canonial dial on its southern wall, a rare and remarkable architectural detail. Originally dedicated to St Peter, it was then placed under the double name of St Peter and St Martin, reflecting liturgical or local developments.
The church once depended on the former diocese of Sées, which underlines its historical importance in the regional religious organization. Today, it remains an emblematic place of the municipality of Condé-sur-Ifs, open to the visit and managed by the municipality. Its classification in 1910 guarantees the preservation of its medieval characteristics and its role in the local heritage.
