Choir and transept (cad. AB 87): entry by order of 9 June 1971

Origin and history

The church Saint-Pontien is a religious building located in Marigné, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built between the 11th and 17th centuries, it reflects several architectural periods, including medieval and modern. His choir and transept, inscribed in the historic monuments in 1971, testify to his local heritage importance.

The churches of that time played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for social and religious events. In Anjou, as elsewhere in France, these buildings were often at the heart of village life, marking the landscape and the collective identity of the inhabitants.

Their construction and maintenance mobilized local resources and know-how, reflecting the organization and priorities of medieval and modern societies.
