Saint-Roman Church (former) (Box F 127): entry by order of 1 June 1973
Origin and history
Châtellerault's Saint-Romain Church is a religious monument located in the town of the same name in New Aquitaine. Its origins date back to the twelfth century, during which time it was probably built or transformed, reflecting the architectural styles of the medieval era. This type of building then played a central role in community life, serving as both a place of worship, a gathering and a symbol of spiritual power in the region.
In the seventeenth century, the church experienced significant changes or additions, as evidenced by the mention of this period in available sources. At that time, churches were often redesigned to adapt to liturgical changes or the needs of a growing population. In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, as elsewhere in France, these monuments embodied the continuity between the medieval past and the transformations of the Modern Times, while remaining identity landmarks for the inhabitants.
