Origin and history
The church Saint-Valère de Goux-les-Usiers is a religious building built in 1722, located in the Doubs department, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. It is distinguished by its regional baroque architecture, including its bell tower-porch surmounted by a dome to imperial, characteristic of the comtoise churches. The interior, structured in a single vessel with sideways, features arches resting on Tuscan columns, illustrating the sober but elegant style of the period.
Classified as historical monuments on 3 September 1992, the church houses remarkable furniture, including several protected elements. Among them are the altarpiece and woodwork of Augustin Fauconnet (classified in 1908), as well as statues and liturgical objects of the 17th and 18th centuries, witnesses to the artistic and devout richness of the region. These successive protections underline its heritage and cultural importance.
Linked to the parish of Val d'Usiers / Arc-sous-Cicon, under the authority of the diocese of Besançon, the church of Saint-Valère embodies the central role of religious buildings in the social and spiritual organization of the franc-comtois countryside. Its architecture and furniture reflect both local traditions and artistic influences of the first half of the 18th century, a period of renewal for religious constructions in France.
The location of the church at 14 Grande Rue in Goux-les-Usiers, and its status as a communal property, make it a place rooted in the daily life of the village. Its classification among historical monuments guarantees the preservation of this heritage, while allowing its openness to the public, although the practical modalities (visits, events) are not detailed in the available sources.
