Origin and history
Saint-Valéry de Fontaine-la-Mallet Church is a religious building located in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy. It was rebuilt between 1954 and 1957 after the 1944 bombings during the Battle of Le Havre, which destroyed much of the city. This reconstruction project was carried out under the direction of architect Serge Zoppi, with Robert as the contractor. The building adopts a regionalist style, mixing traditional materials like brick and pebbles with modern concrete elements.
The church, including its presbytery, staircase and terrace walls, was fully listed as historical monuments by order of 26 November 2001. It is distinguished by a single volume nave, preceded by a porch and flanked by an openwork bell tower. This monument illustrates the post-war reconstruction in Normandy, combining local architectural heritage and technical innovations of the time.
The location of the church is specified in the Mérimée base at rue Jean-Jaurès in Fontaine-la-Mallet, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximate address at 22 Rue Raimond Lecourt. Owned by the commune, it is part of the urban landscape marked by the destruction of the Second World War and subsequent renovation efforts.
