Origin and history

La Pierre-Blanche is a dolmen located in Plechatel, Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany. This megalithic monument, now in ruins, was originally composed of an imposing cover table (3.40 m long, 2 m wide and 1.10 m thick), supported by a prismatic block surrounded by four erect stones forming a circle of 5 to 6 meters in diameter. All together, in quartzite, bears witness to Neolithic construction techniques and funeral practices.

According to a local legend, the Virgin, while walking in the moor, dropped stones from her apron and head, forming the dolmen of the Pierre-Blanche and another nearby megalith, the Long Stone. This oral tradition illustrates the attachment of communities to these monuments, often associated with mythological or religious narratives.

The burial and burial were registered as historic monuments by order of 13 October 1980, recognizing their heritage value. The site, although partially ruined, remains an important testimony of Breton megalithic architecture. Quartzite blocks, characteristic of the region, highlight the ingenuity of Neolithic builders in the use of local resources.
