Origin and history

The Manor House of L'Écluse, located in Criquetot-l'Esneval (Seine-Maritime), is an emblematic home of the Cauchese heritage. Built in the late 15th or early 16th century, it illustrates the typical architecture of the region, with a ground floor in stone and flint, and a wood-paned floor with a slight glare. Its dovecote, added in the 17th century, completes this collection classified historical monument since 1993.

The mansion was probably erected by a nearby abbey or an anobligated family in the 15th century. It belonged successively to the Rallemont families (XVI century), Foville and Isnel (XVIII century), then to Countess Clauzel in 1998. Never sold, there remains a private property closed to the public, demonstrating the continuity of its owner lineage.

Ranked for its home and dovecote, the Lock House is described as a "exceptional example of a Cauchian mansion." Its structure blending stone, flint and wood, as well as its 17th century dovecote, make it a preserved architectural model. The sources, such as Monumentum and Wikipedia, underline its heritage importance in the Pays de Caux.

The protection of the site, formalized by decree in 1993, covers only the house and the dovecote (cadastre B 330). Although not accessible, the manor house has a precise location (placed the lock) and rich documentation, including bibliographical references such as the works of Philippe Seydoux or the Flohic editions.
