Church of Blannaves: registration by decree of 6 December 1949
Origin and history
The Church of St. Peter of Blaannaves, located in Branoux-les-Taillades in the Gard, is a 12th century Romanesque religious building. It is characterized by a single nave arched in cradle, divided into two spans, and a semicircular apse arched in cul-de-four, lower than the nave. Outside, the abside is adorned with a Lombard strip, while the south facade has two foothills connected by a full arch, forming a primitive porch that had to support an arcade bell tower. The entrance door, surmounted by a narrow bay in the middle of the hanger, opens in the first span, and the west gable wall keeps track of an old door of the same style.
The church has been modified over time, notably by the addition of two lateral chapels to the north, probably after the initial construction. These additions reflect an evolution of the building, probably linked to liturgical needs or the growth of the local population. The whole, classified as Historical Monument by decree of 6 December 1949, belongs today to the commune. Its sober architecture and its typical Romanesque elements, such as the arches and the cradle vault, make it an example of the medieval religious heritage of the Occitanie region.
The church's location, reported as approximate (estimated at 5/10), places the monument in a rural setting, at the address "5036 A Blannaves" in Branoux-les-Taillades. Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its inscription as Historic Monuments, highlighting its heritage importance. No information is provided on its current accessibility, whether visitation, rental or accommodation.
