Origin and history
The Saint-Pierre de Minot church, located in the Côte-d的Or department, finds its origins in a Romanesque chapel which today constitutes its choir. In the 13th century, it was enlarged by a six-span nave and collaterals, marking its evolution towards the primitive Gothic style. The dogive vaults, added in the 14th and 15th centuries, transform the nave and the lower side, while the Tuscan-style porch, erected at the end of the 18th century, replaces an ancient refuge for the inhabitants in case of danger.
In the 19th century, major changes took place: the bays were enlarged, requiring the addition of massive foothills, and bows were added to strengthen the structure. The liturgical furniture, including a carved and gilded wooden altarpiece dated 1692, as well as a 13th century child's Virgin, testify to the artistic richness of the building. Ranked a historical monument in 1941, the church thus combines Romanesque, Gothic and classical elements, reflecting its turbulent history.
The 17th century altarpiece, classified in 2010, and statues such as the Virgin with the Child or a Saint Anne Renaissance in golden wood, highlight the religious and cultural importance of the place. The columned walled swimming pool and side chapels, each with a altarpiece, complete this preserved heritage. The church remains a remarkable example of evolutionary religious architecture, marked by successive additions from the twelfth to the nineteenth century.
The protection of the building, formalized in 1941, guarantees the preservation of its most valuable elements, including the blind choir decorated with a baroque altarpiece. Architectural transformations, such as the Tuscan porch or bows, illustrate functional and aesthetic adaptations over the centuries. Today, the St. Peter's Church of Minot embodies both a place of worship and a material testimony of local history, from the medieval to the modern era.
