Parcelle ZB 32: inscription by order of 17 July 1995

Origin and history

The dolmen des Cayroules 1 is part of a set of two dolmens located in the commune of Séverac-l'Église, in the department of Aveyron, in the Occitan region. This megalithic monument dates back to the Neolithic period, a period marked by the emergence of agriculture and livestock, as well as the construction of collective burials. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments, by order of 17 July 1995, underlines its heritage and archaeological importance.

Dolmens, such as the Cayroules 1, generally served as collective graves for Neolithic communities. Their construction reflects a complex social organization and beliefs related to death and beyond. In the regional context, Aveyron has many megalithic sites, reflecting a dense human occupation during this period.

The precise location of the dolmen, on Parcel ZB 32 of Séverac-l'Eglise, is documented in the Merimée base. Although available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) do not provide comprehensive architectural details, its state of conservation and accessibility remain key elements for researchers and visitors interested in prehistoric heritage.
