Origin and history

The Fondmarin site, located in Crépy-en-Valois in Hauts-de-France, is named after Marin Chocq, recipient of Aids and Sizes in the 17th century. The latter acquired a variety of land, including a plot of land with a public washhouse dating back to the same period. Three natural sources flow into this area, feeding a complex hydraulic system.

The nymphae, a central element of the site, was reportedly developed in the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century. It is integrated into a hydraulic system comprising two washers and several basins, reflecting the importance of water in the development of the aristocratic properties of the time. These facilities, typical of the residences of notables, served as much for beautification as for practical purposes.

The Fondmarin complex was officially recognized as a Historic Monument by a registration order on 14 May 2003. This classification specifically protects the nymph, the two washers and the basins, highlighting their heritage value. The site remains a testimony of architecture and water-related social practices under the Old Regime.
