Parcels containing the various archaeological remains (Box B 27-29; C 1057, 1058, 1194) : entry by order of 14 April 1992

Origin and history

The archaeological site of the Peyrussière is located in the heart of the Luberon massif, in the municipality of Bonnieux, in the department of Vaucluse. This site, whose remains date back to the Middle Ages, is representative of ancient human occupations in this region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It was officially recognized for its heritage value by an inscription for historical monuments on 14 April 1992, covering several parcels containing varied archaeological remains.

The protected plots, identified under cadastral references B 27-29 and C 1057, 1058, 1194, illustrate the diversity of traces left by medieval activities in this area. The property of the site is shared between several entities: a public institution of the State, the department, the municipality of Bonnieux, as well as private owners. This multiplicity of managers reflects the collective importance attached to preserving this heritage.

Located near the famous Julien Bridge, an emblematic Roman work of the region, the Peyrussière site is part of a larger historical landscape, marked by successive strata of occupation. Although the available sources do not detail the precise functions of this site in the Middle Ages, its inscription among historical monuments underscores its role in understanding the local dynamics of this period. Approximate location, assessed as "passable" (level 5/10), suggests that further studies could refine knowledge of this historic site.
