Origin and history

The Church of Saint Vincent in Camplong is a Romanesque church today in ruins. It is located in the territory of the commune of Vernet-les-Bains, in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. Its present state does not allow the precise determination of its original architectural characteristics, but its belonging to the Romanesque style suggests a construction dating from the Middle Ages, between the 11th and 12th centuries.

Romanesque churches, like the one in Camplong, played a central role in the life of medieval communities. They served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants, often linked to local agricultural or artisanal activities. In regions such as Roussillon, these buildings also reflected cultural and religious exchanges between the Catalan counties and the rest of Occitanie.
