Origin and history

The Vittel casino, integrated into the thermal park, was rebuilt between 1929 and 1930 by the Parisian architect Auguste Bluysen. It preserves the walls of the former casino theatre, designed in 1908 by Fernand Nachon and destroyed by fire in 1920. Decorative elements, such as fountains and luminaires, date back to 1934 and 1937, adding an Art Deco touch to the ensemble. The building was rehabilitated in 2009 to modernize its interior while preserving its historic character.

The casino is part of a vast thermal complex classified as historical monuments since 1990, including thermal baths, villas, and sports facilities. It reflects the importance of Vittel as a luxury spa destination by the end of the 19th century, attracting an easy clientele for its curative waters. Its architecture blends Belle Époque heritage and 1930s modernity, symbolizing the evolution of spas.

Architects Fernand Nachon and Auguste Bluysen marked the history of the casino: the first by the initial construction of the theatre (1908), the second by its reconstruction after the fire. The exterior fittings, such as the terraces with fountains and luminaires (1934-1937), complete this heritage complex. The casino remains today a place of games (slot machines, roulette, poker) and sociability, perpetuating its original vocation.

Vittel, in the Vosges, owes its reputation to its thermal waters, exploited for medical treatments (digestion, rheumatology, urinary infections). The resort has developed around a spa park designed as a place of cure and leisure, with various facilities: thermal baths, villas, luxury hotels, and sports facilities (racing field, tennis). This heritage, protected in 1990, bears witness to the golden age of spas in France.

The casino is part of a larger hotel and thermal complex, including prestigious hotels such as the Vittel-Palace (1900-1934) or the Grand Hotel (1912-1920), as well as villas signed by Charles Garnier or André Colin. These constructions, often in Art Deco or neoclassical style, illustrate Vittel's appeal to a European elite in search of well-being and entertainment. The station, built in 1926, completes this coherent architectural landscape.
