Origin and history

Cardinal Fesch's statue is a historical monument erected in Ajaccio, Corsica. It is installed during the last works of the Palais Fesch, an emblematic building of the city. This monument, fully protected (including its pedestal and bas-reliefs), was inscribed by ministerial decree in 2017. It symbolizes the importance of Cardinal Fesch, a major figure in local history, and his connection to the Ajaccio architectural heritage.

The sculptor Gabriel-Vital Dubray is the author of this work, commissioned by the municipality of Ajaccio. The statue is located at 49 bis Rue du Cardinal Fesch, in the department of South Corsica (2A). Its location, noted as "passable" in terms of geographic accuracy, reflects its integration into the city's historic urban fabric. The Fesch Palace, with which it is associated, is another listed monument, strengthening its heritage anchor.

The legal protection of the statue covers all its elements, including the decorations deposited. This official registration in 2017 highlights its artistic and historical value. A communal property, it embodies both a tribute to the cardinal and a witness to the sculptural know-how of the nineteenth century in Corsica.
