Protohistoric stele (cad. L 103): by order of 24 April 1968

Origin and history

The protohistoric stele of Fouesnant is an archaeological vestige classified as a Historical Monument since 1968. Located in the Finistère department (Bretagne region), it bears witness to the funeral or commemorative practices of local populations during the Protohistory. Its exact location, 8 Hent Pen Ilis, has been validated with a priori satisfactory accuracy (level 6/10) by available sources.

Protohistoric steles, such as Fouesnant's, were often associated with territorial rites or markings. Their presence in Brittany reflects an ancient human occupation and cultural traditions shared with other Atlantic regions. These monuments, although without inscriptions, offer clues to the social and spiritual organization of the communities of the time.

The classification of the stele by decree of 24 April 1968 underlines its heritage importance. Available data (Monumentum, Merimée database) specify its cadastre (park L 103) and its Insee communal code (29058), but do not provide information on its current accessibility or contemporary use.
