Origin and history

The protohistoric stele of Maël-Pestivien is an archaeological vestige located in the department of Côtes-d This monument, dating back to Protohistory, bears witness to the cultural and funerary practices of the local populations of this distant era. Its precise location, reported near the Kerleon site, remains marked by an approximate location, assessed as "fair" according to the geolocalized accuracy criteria.

Classified as a Historical Monument by ministerial decree of 5 September 1964, this stele (listed under cadastre C 969) illustrates the heritage interest accorded to the physical traces of ancient societies in Brittany. Although available sources (including Monumentum) do not detail its exact use or discovery context, its listing as protected monuments underscores its archaeological value. The stele is part of a Breton landscape rich in megaliths and protohistoric remains, reflecting an ancient human occupation and traditions that are now partially erased.

In Protohistory, Brittany was populated by communities organized around agriculture, livestock and emerging trade.
