Origin and history

Favre Frères Tannery is an industrial monument located in the commune of Seez. This site, whose exact period of activity is not specified in the available sources, shows the importance of craft and industrial activities in this region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Tanneries, like that of the Favre brothers, played a major economic role in the Alpine valleys, transforming hides into leather for local and regional needs.

In mountainous areas such as Seez, skin treatment activities were often associated with breeding and trade. These establishments, in addition to their productive function, structured the social and economic life of the villages. Their presence reflected a community organization where know-how and natural resources combined to support local populations.
