Origin and history

The so-called clearing of the church, located in Cruas en Ardèche, is an area classified Historic Monument by decree of 26 January 1954. This land, bordering the national road 86 and contiguous to the church, has long belonged to the State via the Ministry of Culture. Its status reflects the importance attached to protecting the surroundings of historical religious buildings in this region.

In 2009, ownership of the land was transferred to the municipality of Cruas by an agreement which entered into force on 1 January 2009 and registered with mortgages on 16 March 2009. This transfer marks a step in the local management of the heritage, allowing the municipality to directly ensure its preservation and integration into the urban landscape.

The precise location of the land, indicated as satisfactory (note 7/10), is documented in the Merimée base under the address Grande-Rue 53 or 3 Rue Albert Mercoyrol. This site, although modest in appearance, illustrates the conservation stakes of peripheral areas with major monuments, often neglected but essential to their development.
