Origin and history
The terrace of Abondance is an esplanade located in the commune of the same name, in Haute-Savoie. This monument, which was listed as historic monuments in 1949, is distinguished by its role in local urban development. It is bounded by public buildings such as the town hall and school, as well as by traffic routes and a road leading to the church.
In the Alps, public spaces such as this terrace often served as a gathering place for the inhabitants, promoting social and economic exchanges. These spaces also reflected the community organization of villages, where administrative and religious buildings structured collective life. The Abondance terrace, with its protected elements such as retaining walls and plantations, illustrates this central function in the traditional urban landscape.
