The wrought iron grid (Case AC54): inscription by decree of 8 November 1987
Origin and history
The wrought iron gate of the choir of Morimond Abbey, located in Chassigny in the Grand Est region, is a remarkable architectural element. This monument, classified as Historical Monument, is part of the remains of the Cistercian Abbey founded in the 12th century, although the exact period of creation of the grid is not specified in the available sources. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of November 8, 1987 bears witness to its heritage and artistic value.
Morimond Abbey, whose grid is one of the few preserved elements, was one of the four daughter abbeys of Cîteaux, founded in the early twelfth century. These abbeys played a central role in the religious, economic and social life of the region. The presence of this wrought iron grid, now protected, recalls the importance of medieval craftsmanship and religious architecture in the local heritage.
The grid is currently owned by an association, which allows its preservation and, potentially, its openness to the public in a cultural or tourist setting.
