Origin and history

The Théâtre Paris-Villette was founded in 1986 in the Parc de la Villette in Paris, replacing the Théâtre Présent (1972-1986). Subsidized by the Paris City Hall, he moved to the former Pavillon de la Bourse aux Cuirs, with the mission of promoting contemporary creation. He developed art workshops for local residents and initiated the "X-network" project in 2006, exploring living arts on the Internet as a new stage space.

In 2010, due to lack of funding, the theatre reduced its activity to half a season before being threatened with closure in 2012. Despite the mobilization of artists and the public, it closed on December 15, 2012. A call for projects revives its future, focusing on contemporary creation.

Since 2013, Valérie Dassonville and Adrien de Van have been leading the theatre, reaffirming its role as an open space for artists and various audiences. In 2016, he extended his action by taking over the direction of the Grand Parquet (18th arrondissement), a space dedicated to artistic residences and creative research.
