Origin and history

The medieval tower of Alignan-du-Vent is an emblematic monument of the municipality of the same name. Built in the 12th century, it illustrates the typical military architecture of this period, marked by defensive structures designed to protect local populations. Its strategic location and robustness suggest a central role in medieval territorial organization.

In the 12th century, Occitanie was a region marked by feudal organization and frequent political tensions. Towers such as Alignan-du-Vent served as surveillance points and refuges for residents in the event of conflicts. They also symbolized the power of local lords, while playing an economic and social role in the life of surrounding villages.
