Square tower of Mesnil-Regnard (ruins): inscription by decree of 21 October 1925

Origin and history

The Mesnil-Regnard square tower, located in the municipality of Bonnières-sur-Seine (Yvelines), is a historical monument whose precise origins remain poorly documented. The ruins of this tower, now owned by a private company, were listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 21 October 1925. Its present state and location, at the place called Le Mesnil Renard, suggest a defensive or residential function, typical of medieval or post-medieval buildings of the region.

In Île-de-France, square towers such as the Mesnil-Regnard were often integrated into seigneurial or agricultural systems. They served as surveillance points, shelters, or symbols of local power. The region, marked by rural history and river exchanges (notably via the Seine), had many similar buildings, now partially disappeared.

The 1925 inscription bears witness to the heritage interest of these remains, despite the absence of sources detailing their past use or occupants.
