Tour de l'Horloge: by order of 22 September 1914
Origin and history
The Tour de l'Horloge de Vaison-la-Romaine is a historical monument located in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Classified by ministerial decree in 1914, it now belongs to the commune and bears witness to the architectural heritage of the city. Its location at 5 Rue de l'Evêché suggests a central role in medieval or modern urban organization.
The clock towers, like the one in Vaison-la-Romane, often played a key role in the life of Provencal cities. They rhythmized daily activities (markets, prayers, curfews) and symbolized municipal authority. Their presence also reflected the increasing importance of measuring time in urban societies from the Middle Ages, although the specific details of this tower remain partially documented in available sources.
