Jean de Sabran-Pontevès - Count and owner Commander of the castle in 1890.

Origin and history

The tower of the Maucannière, also called the tower of the Clos Saint-Victor, is located in Joué-lès-Tours, in Indre-et-Loire. It was built on the foundations of an old windmill, then transformed into an apartment according to a notarial act of 1766. Today, it remains in the Clos Saint-Victor park, partially loti, and is part of a complex including a castle built around 1890.

The present castle, built for Count Jean de Sabran-Pontevès, replaced an old stronghold called the Maucannière. The tower itself was listed as a historical monument on November 2, 1951, becoming a protected heritage. It is now managed by a regional public institution, although its access and uses (visits, rentals) are not specified in the available sources.

The exact location of the tower is approximate, with an address listed at 42 rue Manet in Joué-lès-Tours. Its state of conservation and its integration into the Clos Saint-Victor park reflect its history combining medieval heritage (the mill) and modern transformations (rehabilitation into housing, then landscaping).
