Tower (old): inscription by order of 6 March 1950
Origin and history
The tower of Semur-en-Auxois, classified as a Historical Monument, dates from the 13th century and embodies the medieval defensive architecture of the region. Located on Rue de l'Abreuvoir, it was registered by ministerial decree on 6 March 1950, highlighting its heritage value. Its precise location, validated by the Mérimée base, links it to the Insee 21603 code of the commune, in the department of Côte-d的Or.
Semur-en-Auxois, a Burgundy town, was in the Middle Ages a strategic crossroads between trade routes and feudal territories. Towers like this were both a watchtower and a symbol of local power. Their construction reflected the political and military tensions of the time, while participating in the nascent urban organization.
Available sources, including Monumentum, confirm its protected status, without specifying its current use (visit, rental, accommodation). The GPS location and postal address (10 rue de l'Abreuvoir) allow a clear identification, although cartographic accuracy is considered "passable" (note 5/10).
