Tumulus de Goachauter (Cd. H 55): entry by order of 10 August 1970
Origin and history
The tumulus of Goachauter, located in Glomel in the Côtes-d'Armor, is a monument dated to the Bronze Age. This type of funeral structure, characteristic of this period, was generally used to house collective or individual burials, reflecting the beliefs and social practices of the communities of the time. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by order of 10 August 1970 underlines its heritage and archaeological importance.
At the Bronze Age, Brittany was populated by societies organized around agriculture, livestock and crafts, including bronze metallurgy. The tumulus, like Goachauter's, played a central role in the cultural and religious landscape, often marking places of memory for local populations. These funeral monuments were also indicators of social hierarchy, sometimes reserved for high-ranking individuals or influential families.
The location of the Goachauter tumulus, specified as being at address 5483 Goazauter in Glomel, is considered to have fair accuracy (level 5 of 10). This site, although little documented in available sources, remains a material testimony of the funeral traditions of the region during the Bronze Age. His study provides a better understanding of the lifestyles and rituals of the Breton populations of this distant era.
