Tumulus with trunks of Mané-Becker-Noz (case AN 55): classification by decree of 10 September 1913
Origin and history
Mané-Becker-Noz tumulus, located in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, Morbihan, is a funeral monument dating from the Prehistory. This archaeological site, typical of the Breton megalithic buildings, bears witness to the funeral practices of neolithic societies. It is composed of chests, stone structures intended to house collective or individual burials, thus reflecting the importance attached to funeral rites by these ancient communities.
Filed by order of 10 September 1913, the tumulus of Mané-Becker-Noz today belongs to the commune of Saint-Pierre-Quiberon. This classification underlines its heritage value and its role in understanding prehistoric civilizations in Brittany. Although the precise details of its construction and use remain partially unknown, this type of monument illustrates the social and spiritual organization of the people of the time, marked by increasing sedentarization and the development of sustainable collective structures.
The location of the tumulus, reported as approximate with an accuracy considered satisfactory a priori, places the site close to Stade Street, in an environment now urbanized. This coexistence between ancient heritage and modern surroundings recalls the deep anchoring of Breton history in the current landscape. The tumulus, like that of Mané-Becker-Noz, often served as territorial and symbolic landmarks for local communities, while playing a role in the collective memory of successive generations.
